Japanese Teachers' Association of NSWABN 94 045 344 808 |
Hi Everyone,
Hope you had a wonderful and enjoyable holiday and a smooth start for the new school year.
Membership renewal
Membership applications were sent to all schools in January and have probably reached you by now. If you have not received the renewal forms in the mail, you can find them from the attachment of the newsletter email or from the JTAN website www.jtan.org.au. The 2007 membership expired on 31 January 2008. This is the last newsletter for the 2007 members.
Once you renew your membership, you will continue to enjoy the many benefits that JTAN offers ONLY to its members. You will receive the JTAN e-newsletters, which will be emailed to your nominated email account to keep you informed of up-to-date information in Japanese teaching and learning. You are eligible to participate in all workshops and inservices run by JTAN. Your membership also entitles you to purchase all the exam kits that JTAN produces. On top of all these, you can also have unlimited access to the members' area of the JTAN web page.
A lot of schools are willing to pay for the membership fees for their Japanese teachers. Otherwise, it is fully tax deductible. Please write clearly and correctly when you are entering your information in the membership renewal form. If you have changed your contact details, especially your email address, please let us know. A lot of emails that we sent to members were knocked back in the past.
Exam kit purchase
You can also find, from the attachment of the newsletter email or from the JTAN website www.jtan.org.au, the application for exam kit purchases. JTAN will be producing a number of exam kits to help members to cope with the stress of writing exam papers. The exam kit will be on a CD. The written paper can be printed from the Word files and the listening section can be played from the audio files of the CD. You will be able to play the sound tracks from a CD player or a computer. Like your membership fees, a lot of schools are happy to pay for exam purchase. Otherwise, it is fully tax deductible.
The following exam kits will be produced.
Important dates
This is to remind you of these JTAN workshops dates. Please mark them in your calendar.
The Year 10 Day is scheduled to be early August at the Macquarie University.
The Year 12 Continuers Day will be held at North Sydney Boys High School on 14th June.
The Year 12 Beginners Day will be held on 21st June to help members to prepare their students for the new Beginners syllabus HSC exam. It will be held at St Scholastica's College in Glebe.
Japan Club Sydney
If you are looking for some Japanese activities for your class, the Japan Club may be able to help you. Take a look at their website http://www.japanclubofsydney.org
You can also find the Japan Club application form and invoice from the JTAN website. Just go to www.jtan.org.au and click the "contact" tag. Then go to the bottom to find the Japan Club. JTAN does not gain any money from the Japan Club but relating this information to you is another service JTAN offers its members.
Advanced Placement Program
The College Board Advanced Placement Program (USA) is accepting applications for AP Readers. For more details please go to www.ets.org/reader/ap and click "Information for AP Chinese and Japanese Readers". JTAN provides this information to you as a service. The above AP program has no connection with JTAN. Please direct all enquires to them.
That's all for now! Enjoy teaching and have a great year!
