May 2008 Newsletter

Hi Everyone

Welcome back to Term 2. Hope you had a very relaxing break.

Mailing Address

Just want to remind you again that JTAN's mailing address is P O Box 419, Belrose 2085. Many schools sent their exam order forms to the wrong address resulting in delays in receiving their CD's!

Website

It is nice to hear a lot of positive comments from members who have browsed the JTAN members' area. If you have any great teaching ideas, worksheets, etc please consider sharing them with other members. Just go to the "create a new topic" tag on the right hand side of the "Teaching and Assessment" page. No names appear so you can be anonymous.

Year 11 Beginners Assessment Kit

All members who ordered the Year 11 Beginners Assessment Kit before the end of Term 1 should have received it by now. If you have any concern, please contact the Secretary, Liz Sugimoto esugimoto@optusnet.com.au

Some members are adapting the Year 11 Beginners Assessment Kit for the Year 11 Continuers' half yearly exam or for Year 10 exams. What a great idea!

Year 10 Day

Many schools have already sent in their application forms for the Year 10 Day. There are not many places left. Please get your forms in ASAP so that you do not miss out on this great event. By the way, you are also making history - first time in NSW for a Japanese Year 10 Day.

The Year 10 Day is scheduled for Friday, 25th July (week 1 Term 3) at Sydney University Carslaw Building. For more details, please take a look at http://jtan.org.au/events.php

Students are expected to wear their own school uniform so that it is easier for teachers to identify the schools they come from. Students need to bring their own morning tea and lunch. However, teachers' lunches will be provided.

Year 12 Continuers Day

If you have not applied, please do so quickly. It is a golden opportunity for Year 12 Continuers students to get extra listening and speaking practice with Japanese speakers other than their own teacher. They will also get individual feedback on the spot.

The Year 12 Continuers Day will be held on Saturday 14th June (week 7, Term 2). For more details please go to http://jtan.org.au/events.php

Please note that teachers taking students to the Year 12 Continuers Day must be part of the examiners team on the day.

Year 12 Beginners Day

The Year 12 Beginners Day will be similar in style to the Continuers Day where students can get extra listening and speaking practices. Students also get feedback on their performance on the day.

The Year 12 Beginners Day is scheduled for Saturday 21st June (week 8, Term 2). Please go to http://jtan.org.au/events.php for more details.

Please note that teachers taking students to the Year 12 Beginners Day must be part of the examiners team on the day.

REGIONAL Year 12 Continuers Day

Because of the overwhelming support of the regional members, JTAN will run two extra Year 12 Days in the regional areas of Coffs Harbour and Ballina on 23rd and 28th June respectively. Some JTAN committee members will travel to the area to assist the regional members to run the Year 12 Days. If you are a member in one of these two areas and are keen to take your students to the event, please contact the regional organizing person DIRECTLY. Please contact ??Rikako Degens rdegens@lism.catholic.edu.au for the Coffs Harbour region and Motoko Christensen motoko@teatree.jp for the Ballina region. There may be a Year 12 Day for the Bathurst/Orange areas. We will send you more information as soon as it is available.
