The aim of this workshop is to assist teachers to plan for and implement effective teaching and learning strategies. Language is innately learned through repetition and active participation. Cultural crafts presented in the target language ensure a practical and fun way to acquire language. Participants will engage in variety of cross curricula activities which are transportable and simple to complete in a 30~50minute lesson.

Introduced as part of New Year cultural understanding unit, students learn concept of ’nankorobi yaoki’ – perseverance, patience and personal endeavour to produce their own good luck talisman.
Washi paper craft can be used to teach the economic concept of ‘value adding’ to create beautiful items of worth.
Shibori is an excellent and engaging way to teach colour and colour combinations.
Mindfulness and engagement of the senses is the goal of ink painting and kakejiku making. Students learn that through focus, practice and perseverance they can produce quality artworks.
Completing this workshop will contribute 4.5 hours of Teacher Identified PD addressing 2.1.2, 3.3.2, 3.4.2, 4.1.2, 6.2.2, 6.3.2, 7.4.2 in the Australian in the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW. This workshop also accommodates Graduate Teachers and pre-service teachers.
