Effective use of textbook (Obentou, Iitomo) – CANCELLED

This face-to-face workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to share resources and activities based on the Iitomo series and the Obentou series. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from authors of the textbooks and learn how to effectively teach using the textbook. There will be opportunity for teachers to share one resource within their groups as well as have time to develop resources based on the learnings from the day.  Participants will be expected to bring a textbook-based resource on the day for sharing.

Iitomo co-author: Mami Izuishi, one of the co-authors of iiTomo 1iiTomo 2 and iiTomo Senior, has been teaching Japanese at secondary schools in NSW for more than 25 years. Her experience in curriculum development includes being a member of the syllabus-writing team for the Japanese Heritage course (now Japanese in Context) and its sample examination, as well as being a member of the course-writing team for Japanese Extension. She has been actively involved in the HSC examination for more than 20 years as both an oral examiner and a marker.

Obentou lead author: Sue Xouris has vast experience in teaching, writing and presenting Japanese language learning material. Sue has previously managed The Nihongo Tanken Centre and lectured in languages education at the University of Technology, Sydney, Macquarie University and Sydney University. Sue is also the author of the Obento Snack Pack series.

9:00 – 11:00 Presentation on textbooks. Participants will be split into their elected textbook group for this sesion

11:00 – 11:20 Morning tea provided

11:20 – 1:00 Resource sharing session

1:00 – 1:40 Lunch provided

1:40 – 2:45 Participants will use this time to develop their own resources

2:45 – 3:00 Evaluation
